Episode 75: Live Recording

It sounds like everyone had a great time. A few things were hard to make out, but it mostly sounded fine. I think what John said is really true: with Mormonism, you never really run out of topics.

But, just in case, here are a few Leah and I thought of:

- Informed consent problems with Mormon covenants (esp. temple endowment)
- Mark Hoffman for Dummies
- The Mormon Reformation Years: 1852-57

There was way too much lightmindedness and loud laughter for this to have been a Mormon meeting.

I attended the recording and was really glad I went. It was a lot of fun and I got a chance to put some faces with names. It’s amazing how helpful it is to talk with people dealing with the same issues I’ve been.

Thanks to John, Zilpha and the rest of the crew for all their work.

Also thanks again to Mike for spending the evening with the apostates. I don’t love the calling to repentance but I have to respect Mike’s willingness to engage.

Did you anyone get a count on how many people attended?

Also how did the after meet up at Gracie’s go? I came by but opted to to skip the crowd/noise and head home to the Mrs.

I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the post that was published at the Patheos WaPo blog, OnFaith. I’m sorry to hear about the commenting problems. For the record, the same article is cross-posted at Patheos; you can comment there, either with your Facebook account or by registering for a Patheos account.

y’all missed out who didn’t attend. Next year we might need a slightly larger venue! My favorite things were learning fun factoids about mormon history I never knew in a gameshow style. I also got a huge kick out of the huge variety of personalities. I guess being a newbie at this dis affection bizness, a tiny part of me still assumed everyone attending would be really “worldly” or just plain strange. Like some of the people I visited on Missionary splits in West Side Salt Lick back in the 90′s.

For those of you who are curious, I counted 92 people in attendance, but a few more might have come in after I left the reception table. It’s really unfortunate that the main recording computer locked up, after John spent many hours figuring out how to wire in all the mikes and buying adapters, ect. Oh well, computers sometimes give up when we’re really counting on them the most! Fortunately, Tom and his wife brought their digital voice recorder and saved the day. I don’t know about anyone else, but the obscure church facts quiz show was my favorite part and I hope we do it again next year. Also for next year I’d like to see an art show/competition as part of the event. John thinks a “for dummies” discussion of some kind that could include audience participation competition would be fun for next time. It could work.What do you guys think?

I really enjoyed meeting people both before and after the recording. I’m looking forward to future events and more chances to talk with friends.
