John and Zilpha talk with the folks running the new White Fields Educational projects.
By John Larsen
… and yet, I enjoy this podcast at least as much as This American Life. Keep up the good work, guys, in whatever form it takes.
I also came here to say that I enjoy Mormon Expression just as much as This American life. To be sure, 50% of this is because talking about Mormonism from a liberal/non-believer perspective, is something I and others like me, seem to have an insatiable appetite for. Of course the other 50% is the personalities and insights of John Dehlin (j/k, Larsen) and the other panelists….To be sure, some episodes have a bum panel and even when it is an otherwise interesting topic I turn it off out of frustration with the participants, so the topic clearly doesn’t do all the work. I will also note, that there has never been a panel which included John that I turned off. John always makes it interesting. John,(now imagine me turning and looking into your damn eyes) your presence always makes the panels/episodes interesting.
I can pretty much listen to anything as long as John L is on it.
I just want to say that I listen to ‘This American Life’ as well. I love both podcasts. You guys do awesome.
I didn’t know that Mormon Matters was a response to ME. It seems so much crappier (MM does) and boring. Maybe it is because it is from a much more TBM point of view, so they can’t be very sarcastic. It seems that when a guest does get a little negative towards the church (I’m thinking Greg and Jared, back from when I listened to it), Dan tends to shut them down
Mormon Matters has some good moments, but it’s a bit too earnest and collegial for my taste. It reminds me of public affairs panel discussions produced by local PBS stations.
I didn’t know that, either. Man, I really have to force myself to keep listening to Mormon Matters, which I only do if the topic sounds particularly interesting. Even then, it’s a challenge. I guess it’s just impossible for me to imagine ever wanting to consider myself a “faithful Mormon” so much that I would adjust the definition thereof so drastically.
I second everything said here. I didn’t know it was a response, either, and I find it to be relatively unlistenable, which is really too bad, considering how interesting Dan can be.
I’m excited to check out the Mormon Expositor and fMh podcasts, but neither seems to be available through iTunes right now. Any ETA on when/if that might change?
Also, thanks for everything you all do. I’ve been an avid Mormon Expression listener since the very beginning. I’m a little bummed John and Zilpha are taking a step back, although I totally understand it, but it will be fun to see how these other projects evolve.
Todd, Expositor hasn’t started releasing episodes yet. We’re launching on August 1. I also recently noticed that fMh isn’t on itunes. I think it’s something that still needs to be set up for them. So thanks for the heads-up.
The feminist mormon housewives podcast has been setup in ITunes, but you have to type “FMH Podcast” in the search bar to find it. I hope this helps!
