I had a great time as always chatting with John. There is so much I wanted to cover but in the end I think I said what was needed to be said. There is a thousand different ways to say what was said, and there will be plenty more opportunities to cover these very broad topics.

Thanks for the great conversation John!

How is that timeshare sales job you have working out for you?

Really enjoyed listening to the interview. It took me 3 days to build up the courage to tell my wife I no longer believe and was pleasantly surprised when she said she has had some doubts also. We left the Church together and our relationship and trust has grown stronger together. I just can’t imagine what it must be like when one spouse is a full believer and one no longer believes.

I don’t feel that belief is a choice and it is sad to hear conflicts in family because of religious beliefs. I hope that it works out for you and that family always comes first and whatever situation you have works for both of you and your family.

You are certainly welcome Jay. How did your wife react when you informed her of your doubts? Do you still attend?

Things are certainly difficult at times. With time hopefully things might change. I keep hope alive, but I know those who choose not to examine the claims of the church critically will always hold fast to the institution they think is in the right.

    Richard:

Thank you for your words. Tensions are high at times due to the incongruent religious situation in our household. This has waned with time but flare-ups still occur. As I said in the interview, I had expressed my doubts to my wife before I had finally stopped attending. My wife was very upset, so much that I decided to keep attending for awhile until I reached the breaking point. it takes quite a bit of courage to announce your disbelief.

I am glad to hear your wife made the decision to leave as well. just a curiosity, how has your relationship changed now that you are both out of Mormonism?

Another great episode. James, I was actually serving in the Las Vegas West Mission in ’99-’01. Did you live in that mission?

I went into the MTC in January of 99, so we were on our missions at the same time. As to if I lived in the area I am unsure. I have lived all over Las Vegas.

I think what you guys are doing is great. Just one request, please change your intro and end music. It’s probably a personal preference, but when I hear it I think Mr. Goodbody or the Bloodhound Gang is about to come on.

Thanks for another great podcast guys. I too am in the same situation as you Jim as far as my wife. Every so often I get a glimpse of her starting to see the church as I do so I am hopeful she will eventually break free of the mindset she has held for so many years. Thanks for you insights and courage to see the Emperor as naked – so to speak.

This story was basically a mirror of my exit from the church except that I didn’t turn on a dime like he did. I think for those of us who are a bit older, it was Sunstone and Dialogue and not the internet, that we “free thinking” Mormons turned to. Those didn’t have the same shock value as the stuff on the internet so the loss of faith was more gradual (not to say that all Sunstoners “lose” their faith). Also, my “ending” is much less happy than yours — my wife is not at all on board with my departure and tries to guilt me into attendance.

Hey all, its Merc from over yonder Shady Acre. Thought I might pop in and post a hello. I probably will be looking around here more often, maybe contributing here and there.

Thanks everyone who pointed me over here. I’d always heard of FLAK but never even lurked. Time for me to get out of my comfort zone you could say.

I was born and raised Mormon, went on a mission, married in the temple, leaving the church several years ago due to glaring reasons I am sure we are all familiar with.

My wife still attends, I do not. But still I love discussing Mormonism hence my time spent on the boards and other endeavors such as contributing to The Mormon Expression Podcast.

I don’t take too much seriously to a degree, some of my posts are deliberate troll baiting and other bad posting habits I keep in check from time to time. This being said, I hope I can contribute to this community.

    Thanks!
