I remember when I was a young man, my best friend’s dad would give some of the best talks. I’ll have to share the really memorable talk he gave about the ‘Virgin Islands’ another time, but his second most memorable talk for me had to do with justification. He went through a couple of stories from the bible, and found ways to justify them. Like the water to wine, he talked about how wine can infuse flavors into the pots it’s stored in, and perhaps people were too drunk to notice and maybe the water tasted good, and at the end of it all, he concluded with the idea that sometimes we can justify our way out of believing things.
