40: Jennifer is Free to Choose!

Speaking of postpartum depression, I once became interested in how such a thing could evolve and the answer, while unsavory made sense and this woman’s experience seems to confirm it.
From what I’ve gathered, the best theory about the evolution of post-partum depression is that in pre-historic times, if a woman did not have enough outside care and support to appropriately nurture a new child, not only is the new baby’s life at risk but also that of her other children and even herself. So, (and it is unpleasant to even talk about, but nature is brutally cruel) in those situations, depression and feelings of disconnection sets in to compel the mother to abandon the new child so resources needn’t be spread so thin.
Whenever I hear of someone having postpartum depression my first thought is, ‘did this person not feel they had enough outside support to help care for the new child, either because their husband had left them or was unavailable and no other family could step in?’
So far, as in this woman’s sad experience where her husband was intermittently away and generally not too helpful and with people I have personally known, my observations have seemed to confirm it true, or at least, the circumstance that trigger it.

Great interview. It’s heartbreaking to hear that your ex had so little respect for you that he would prefer you never see your kids again. I’m glad that you are in a better place now, and best of luck to you going forward. Also, great to hear from Nate again.

I have always struggle with whether people really change or not. It was cool to hear how Jennifer changed her attitudes and perspectives on homosexuality so much after leaving the church doctrine behind.
